Simple Ideas to Create That Fall Feeling

Do you love fall? Want some ideas for getting that cozy fall vibe going in your life and home? Here is a list of simple ideas for fall – most of which are pretty inexpensive, too.
I love fall so much! It is absolutely my favorite season. I love that the weather gets cooler, I love to see the trees changing color. Going for a walk in the crisp weather, admiring all the fall colors…that’s one of my favorite things to do! I love finally needing a sweater!

The flavors of fall are also so yummy! I love pumpkin, apples, spices…yum! Fall pies and muffins are sooooo tasty! Plus, it is time to start making a weekly soup to enjoy! Soup is one of my favorite food groups. Every year I spend a good chunk of my time in the fall perfecting my favorite fall recipes!
And finally, the other reason I love fall is the anticipation of holidays and good times to come! We love Halloween around here, and of course, Thanksgiving and Christmas follow all too quickly!
Without further ado, here are some of my simple fall favorites to get you in the autumnal mood (I like to say autumnal ironically and I hear Martha Stewart’s voice in my head because I learned the word from her years ago):
Get in an autumnal mood. It’s a good thing. ~Martha (probably)
Fall Decor
Decorating for fall is so much fun! I love to make my mantel look spooky for Halloween, and cozy for Thanksgiving. Amazon has a great deal on these fall leaf lights that would look great on my mantel and yours, too:
I also love this light-up pumpkin:
We are huge Harry Potter fans around here, so we have a few owls, potion bottles and spell books mixed in with our Halloween decor.

My daughter sells fall stickers, too, which is a quick way to add a bit of fall whimsy to your life! The stickers are available on her Etsy site, Caligurlvibes. They are repositionable, which means that you can use them to spruce up your water bottle, thermos, laptop, whatever for just the season, and then when you want to move on you can take them off! She will probably make some for winter, too!
Living room decor
When the seasons change, I like to switch out my throw pillows and throw blankets in our living room. Here are some cute pillow covers for fall:
This blanket looks super soft and cozy and has great reviews:
This sweater blanket has great reviews too, and has a warm yellow tone for fall:

I love candles so much, but I recently learned that many candles are toxic. Parrafin candles put dangerous fumes into the air we breathe. Real beeswax candles are a safer choice, so I am going to order some of these so I’ll have tealights for my cute Halloween candle holders:
LED candles are also a good choice, and are also good if you have little kids around since they aren’t a fire hazard. Plus, they’re reusable! I have some that are tealight sized to go inside little holders, and others that are a little bigger and look good on their own or interspersed with other decorations:
If you don’t already have tea light holders, here are some choices:
Fall Scents
If you want to add some lovely fall scents to your home, you can still do it without candles! This season I am using essential oils to get my home smelling like fall, without the toxic chemicals that candles can emit. I have a Young Living Essential Oils diffuser. I’ve been experimenting with various recipes for fall scents. Here’s one of my favorites – it reminds me of apple pie:
- 2 drops Citrus Fresh
- 1 drop Ginger
- 1 drop Cinnamon Bark

Fall Style
I am loving my cozy sweater cape wrap from Heidi Kagan Designs! It is perfect for the transition to cooler weather because it can be worn several ways:
- as a cape with sleeves
- as a vest without sleeves
- as a poncho
- as a scarf wrap
Poncho style Vest Style
And it’s so stylish, too! I love feeling like I’ve put some effort into looking pretty and not just thrown on whatever…yet it’s easy! And great news – they are giving a special deal to my readers! Go to www.heidikagan.com and your first purchase is 15% off if you tell them Nourishing Tweens sent you! It’s a great deal. And, they always offer free shipping to orders in the U.S. I love mine so much I’m wearing it right now as I type! Today I’m going with poncho style!

Fall boots
I had a pair of Ugg ankle boots that I wore for years – wore them to death, in fact! I did miles and miles of walking in them and they felt great and looked pretty cute. I am thinking of replacing them this season, and this style is very similar:
This Sam Edelman pair is also adorable and has a ton of good reviews and comes in a bunch of colors:
Fall tops
Cooler temps means we can start wearing long-sleeved tops – at least in the morning! This one looks comfy and cute:
It comes in a bunch of colors and the price is reasonable, too. This one is a great deal, a good choice for a mom on a budget, like me:

I love using themed towels in my house to celebrate the seasons and holidays! It’s inexpensive, fun, and takes very little effort. Here are some cute finds:
Napkins
Another fun, easy, and inexpensive thing I like to switch out with the seasons is napkins. Here are some good choices:
Placemats
Another easy fall decor idea is to put out some fall table linens. The simplest choice would be to pick one set that would work for Halloween and Thanksgiving as well as fall in general. Here are a couple of pretty choices:
Or if you like to change them more often, here are some good choices for Halloween and Thanksgiving:
